The motion

That the Parliament recognises that the Royal College of Nursing celebrated Nursing Support Workers’ Day for the fourth year on 23 November 2023; welcomes Nursing Support Workers’ Day as a day to shine a spotlight on the nursing support workforce across Scotland, highlighting what it sees as the vital contribution that they make to patient care in health and social care; understands that the title, nursing support worker, covers a number of roles across health and social care settings, including healthcare support workers, carers and senior carers, care assistants and clinical support workers; considers that the true extent of the work carried out by the nursing support workforce is often hidden, and that their value is underestimated; welcomes Nursing Support Workers’ Day as providing an opportunity to recognise and celebrate what it considers to be the vital work of nursing support workers within nursing teams, and hopes that MSPs, health and care providers and the public were able to demonstrate their appreciation for nursing support workers on 23 November.
