The Royal Scottish Country Dance Society Celebrates its Centenary Year
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society (RSCDS) on celebrating its centenary year; understands that the RSCDS was founded on 26 November 1923 in what is now the Hard Rock Café on Buchannan Street, in Glasgow, formally the Atheneum; understands that RSCDS aims to promote and develop Scottish Country Dance and related dance forms as inclusive, exciting activities that can be enjoyed by anyone, anywhere; further understands that it delivers its mission to today’s generation by running activities and annual events in the UK and further afield, all with a focus on Scottish Country Dance; recognises that RSCDS has been celebrating its centenary year with a large number of events throughout the world, including a Centenary Ball in Edinburgh, a live link-up dance with its summer school in St Anders and a summer school in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and the publication of its new book of dances, Book 53, and accompanying CDs of music; congratulates RSCDS on its centenary year, and wishes it well going forward.
