Sail Training Shetland Wins International Award

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Shetland-based charity, Sail Training Shetland, on winning the award for Sail Training Organisation of the Year in the small vessel section during the Sail Training International conference in Dunkirk, France; understands that Sail Training Shetland received the award in recognition of its volunteer committee’s achievements in supporting the Tall Ships Races 2023, when Lerwick was the only Scottish host port; further understands that Sail Training Shetland placed 100 fully-funded trainees in the race series, made up of 50 young people from Shetland and 50 from Lewis, Orkney, Caithness and Sutherland and Ross-shire; considers that Sail Training Shetland is a unique charity in the tall ships community, which works to raise funds, promote, recruit, mentor and support sail trainees’ placements; believes that the valuable work of Sail Training Shetland provides life-changing positive experiences to young people, and wishes all at Sail Training Shetland well.
