100 Years since the Passing of John Maclean

The motion

That the Parliament commemorates the 100th anniversary of the passing of John Maclean; understands that John, a teacher and organiser from the Red Clydeside era, was born on 24 August 1879 and died, at the age of 44, on 30 November 1923; recognises what it sees as his contribution to working-class education across Scotland in the early 20th century, and that he taught shipbuilders in Inverclyde, munitions workers in Glasgow and miners across the coalfields of Lanarkshire, Midlothian and Fife, and believes that his work and dedication to education, peace, equality and self-determination has inspired generations to dedicate their lives to making Scotland a better place to work and live.
