24 Community Nurses and Midwives Awarded Prestigious Queen's Nurse Title
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates the 2023 intake of Queen’s Nurses; understands that 24 community nurses and midwives were awarded the title of Queen's Nurse on 24 November at the Queen's Nursing Institute Scotland (QNIS) annual awards ceremony in Edinburgh; further understands that the Queen's Nurse Development Programme (QNDP) consists of residential and online workshops as well as individual coaching sessions; understands that it requires participants to choose a specific issue to develop, which will impact those they care for and also promote equality and inclusion; appreciates that Queen's Nursing dates back to the late 19th century in Scotland when nurses completed training that permitted them to work as district nurses, with the Queen’s Nurse title reintroduced in Scotland in 2017; understands that QNIS is a small charity and that the QNDP is funded by grant-making trusts and donations, and commends the roles of community nurses and midwives who play an important role in local health resilience.
