Celebrating Roy Dennis Winning the Species Champion Award for his Lifetime Work on Osprey Conservation

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Roy Dennis MBE on winning the Species Champion award at the Nature of Scotland Awards 2023; acknowledges Roy's lifelong commitment to osprey conservation, which, it understands, began in 1960 when he helped protect the UK’s only breeding osprey at Loch Garten; understands that he is now in his seventh decade of osprey conservation; recognises that Roy worked to ensure the successful recolonisation of many osprey breeding grounds across the UK; thanks him for the work that he is doing to conserve these stunning birds in the context of the nature emergency, and understands that Roy has worked in the Highlands and Islands since 1959, most notably on the conservation of rare birds and the reintroduction of lost species, such as the white-tailed eagle and red kite, and that he continues to provide inspiration and encouragement for numerous initiatives focused on restoring habitats for various species, such as beavers and capercaillie.
