Clyde 1 Radio of Clydebank Celebrates 50 Years on Air

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Clyde 1 Radio, based in Clydebank, on celebrating its 50th anniversary on 31 December 2023; notes that the station first went on air at 10.30 pm on Hogmanay 1973, broadcasting on 261 metres medium wave; understands that the purpose-built studios were opened in 1983, and that, in 1986, the new HQ was graced with a visit from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II; acknowledges that many presenters went on to become household names, including "Tiger" Tim Stevens, Paul Coia, Jackie Bird and George Bowie, who recently celebrated 25 years at the station; notes that supporters of the station in its early days included luminaries Sir Sean Connery, Sir Jackie Stewart, and Lord Gordon of Strathblane; welcomes that the station's Cash for Kids appeal has, it understands, so far raised £2.6 million and supported over 74,000 children, and wishes the entire team at Bauer Media every success over the next 50 years.
