Motion · S6M-11663 · 13 Dec 2023
Temporary Closure of Summerhill Road Post Office, Drumchapel, Glasgow Anniesland
The motion
That the Parliament understands that the Summerhill Road Post Office branch, situated in Drumchapel, in the Glasgow Anniesland constituency, is another branch facing temporary closure; further understands that, as a result of the resignation of the current postmaster, this branch will close on 14 December 2023 until the vacancy can be filled; considers that the potential temporary closure of this branch is another huge loss to a community within Drumchapel and Anniesland; believes that this is both unacceptable and inconvenient and not at all representative of the principles that the Post Office was founded upon, nor the franchise it was sold so cheaply for; considers that this is another hammer blow from the Post Office, particularly for older members of the Drumchapel community; believes that every option must be explored by the Post Office to ensure that the vacancy is permanently filled, including whether it is paying enough for the position to be viable; considers that this is particularly important as, it understands, the Anniesland Cross Post Office was temporarily closed on 21 April 2023 and has never re-opened, despite several meetings with Post Office officials, and believes that this can add to the difficulties for constituents reaching alternative branches, depending on their mobility and access to public or private transport.
