Saving the Milan Day Centre in Kirkintilloch

The motion

That the Parliament expresses its concern at the reported decision by East Dunbartonshire Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) to close the Milan Day Centre in Kirkintilloch; understands that Milan provides a tailored service for its ethnic minority client base, including multilingual staff who have an appropriate cultural understanding of the service users’ needs; believes that Milan is seen by its service users and their families as a model for the rest of Scotland to follow; understands that the decision to close the centre follows a consultation that was carried out during the COVID-19 pandemic and was conducted largely remotely, which has left service users feeling that their concerns were not taken into account; further understands that the alternative day centres that service users will be forced to choose between will not offer a service of the same standard that they currently receive at Milan; acknowledges that Age Scotland is supporting the campaign to keep the Milan Centre open, and calls on the East Dunbartonshire HSCP to fully engage with the concerns of all service users and reconsider its decision to close what it sees as this important local service.
