Professor Mercedes Maroto-Valer from Heriot-Watt University Receives Net-Zero Industries Award 2023 at COP28

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Professor Mercedes Maroto-Valer, Deputy Principal for Global Sustainability at Heriot-Watt University, on receiving the first Global Net-Zero Industries Award – Female Innovators by Mission Innovation Net-Zero Industries (MI NZI), whilst attending the COP28 conference in the United Arab Emirates; understands that the inaugural Net-Zero Industries Award received nearly 70 submissions, spanning 16 countries, and highlights the global efforts in decarbonising industry; further understands that this award highlights Professor Moroto-Valer’s dedication to decarbonising energy-intensive industries, breaking silos obstructing innovation and creating an integrated ecosystem of academia, industry, and policymakers; believes that the award showcases Professor Maroto-Valer as an inspiring example of someone who has achieved a successful career in research and innovation, and in her commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, and wishes Professor Maroto-Valer and her team and collaborators at Heriot-Watt University continued success in inspiring women and promoting what it sees as their critical role in the energy transition.
