Simon Community Safe Place Appeal
The motion
That the Parliament commends the Simon Community on its Safe Place appeal, which aims to directly support people through its Lanarkshire services; understands that the charity is looking to raise over £200,000 to provide housing support, including crisis intervention and resettlement, to those either facing homelessness or who are homeless; notes that the Simon Community Scotland (SCS) is Scotland’s largest provider of homeless support services; understands that it is currently working with 84 people in Lanarkshire, who are at risk of losing their homes, 24 people living in SCS accommodation services, including a dedicated female-only service for those who have experienced domestic abuse, mental health or addiction issues, and that, in partnership with Barnardos and Blue Triangle, it supports a further 50 people; commends the work and support of the SCS staff and volunteers, and thanks them for their commitment to helping those during what can be their most challenging and darkest times.
