Partnership Between Heriot-Watt University and University of Dundee to Address Health Inequalities

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes a new multi-million collaborative project led by Heriot-Watt University and the University of Dundee in collaboration with NHS Tayside and InnoScot Health, which, it understands, will seek to address health inequalities through the use of medical technologies across Scotland; believes that the project, Accelerating Impact of Community HealthCarE Tayside (AICCET), will enable the creation of better and more accessible healthcare for local communities by examining how advancements in technology could move treatments away from large hospitals and into more accessible community settings, such as GP surgeries or even a patient’s home; understands that AICCET will engage with a wide range of patients and stakeholders who may benefit from treatments in local settings and co-create patient-centred healthcare solutions; notes that AICCET was awarded £2.5 million in funding from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council’s (EPSRC) Place-Based Impact Acceleration Account (PBIAA), part of UK Research and Innovation, which is funding 10 major projects throughout the UK; understands that Heriot-Watt University and the University of Dundee will also work alongside Dundee City Council, the University of St Andrews, Edinburgh Napier University and the University of Glasgow with support from InnoScot Health, NHS Tayside Innovation Hub, Biodundee, Scottish Enterprise, Dundee and Angus College and NHS Research Scotland initiative SHARE to deliver this four-year project, and wishes all researchers, partners and patients involved in the study best of luck.
