Lodged by Stuart McMillan (Scottish National Party) Standard Motion 23 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Greenock Wanderers Rugby Club on reaching its 150th anniversary in 2023, having been founded in 1873, and since then going on to remain a stalwart sports club within the Inverclyde community; understands that throughout 2023 the club organised a variety of events to mark the milestone, concluding with a Christmas Ball in the Greenock Town Hall on 22 December, where it was announced that a Greenock Wanderers Hall of Fame is being established to recognise all those who have contributed to the club’s success; appreciates that as part of the anniversary year there has been a significant drive to encourage more women and girls to take up rugby, which, it understands, has resulted in the Greenock-based club having one of the largest women’s and girl’s sections in the whole of Scotland; recognises that the Greenock Wanderers club has plans to develop and expand the clubhouse so that it can continue to grow the sport in Inverclyde, and wishes all those involved with the club all the best for the future.
