The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the news that every P6 pupil across the Scottish Borders received Bikeability Scotland cycle safety training in the last academic year, and that this feat is on track to be repeated; understands that the playground-based Bikeability 1 cycle skills training and Bikeability 2 road safety cycle training sees bikes and helmets provided to all children to participate, and aims to ensure that they are confident on a bike as well as being safe; notes that the programme is delivered locally by Scottish Borders Council’s Outdoor Education team, with ongoing support from Cycling Scotland, Smarter Choices, Smarter Places funding and the Community Cycling Fund, and believes that such initiatives will continue to positively influence the way that young people engage with cycling as part of their day-to-day lives, as a means of active travel and contribute to good mental and physical wellbeing.
