Reidvale Housing Association Members Vote to Keep Community Control
The motion
That the Parliament recognises that members of Reidvale Housing Association in Dennistoun voted overwhelmingly to reject a takeover by the London-based Places for People Group; notes that Reidvale Housing Association was established as a result of a campaign to save tenements along Glasgow’s Duke Street, which, it understands, Glasgow Corporation wanted to demolish during the 1970s; understands that the "Bathgate Street Mafia", who were led by the late, John Butterly MBE, fought to save their homes and become one of Scotland’s first community-owned housing associations in 1975; acknowledges the efforts of the campaign group, Reidvale Residents Against the Places for People Group takeover, in mobilising the community once again to save Reidvale, and wishes the group well in its efforts to secure its future under community ownership for generations to come.
