Reidvale Housing Association
The motion
That the Parliament recognises that members of Reidvale Housing Association in Dennistoun recently voted overwhelmingly to reject a takeover by the London-based Places for People Group; notes that the tenants voted by a majority of 61% to accept the takeover, with the members appearing to have gone against the wishes of the tenants; believes that Reidvale Housing Association was established as a result of a campaign to save tenements along Glasgow’s Duke Street, and that it would be extremely disappointing if it were to lose its independence; considers, however, that the offer by Places for People to keep rents low and to invest considerable amounts in repairs and refurbishment has not so far been met by Reidvale itself, or by any other potential partner; acknowledges the efforts of the campaign group of Reidvale residents against the Places for People Group takeover; wishes the group well in its efforts to secure its future under community ownership for generations to come, and hopes that it has a plan to ensure that tenants do not lose out through this recent vote.
