The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the news that the project to restore Glasgow’s People’s Palace and Winter Gardens is to receive £850,000 from the National Lottery Heritage Fund; understands that this initial development funding will lead to a Heritage Fund second stage application to secure a further £6.65 million of support, which would be among the largest heritage awards to be given to a single project in Scotland; recognises that the People’s Palace is home to collections documenting Glasgow’s social history from 1750 to present, and is a much-loved building in the east end of the city; understands that the restoration project will redevelop the building, creating a dynamic community-led museum and flexible space designed to help inclusion, which is accessible and environmentally sustainable, and looks forward to the restoration and protection of this treasured cultural and heritage asset for visitors and generations of Glasgow citizens to come.
