Recognising the Carswell Foundation
The motion
That the Parliament recognises Ben Balgowan for his charitable work raising fundsand for setting up the Carswell Foundation and raising awareness of variousissues affecting people in Motherwell; understands that Ben set up thefoundation following the loss of Ben’s grandparents, who both died of cancerwithin a year of each other, and the loss of his close friend Ross McPherson,who tragically took his own life in August 2022; thanks Ben for his work withinthe community and in honouring his loved ones’ memories; believes that everylife lost to suicide is an enormous tragedy; notes the reported announcement of£123 million of funding for the Cancer Research UK Scotland Institute inSeptember 2023, and hopes that this work will lead to increasing the survivalrates of cancer.
