The motion

That the Parliament congratulates those involved in Celtic Connections 2024, an annual event that is being hosted by Glasgow Life in Glasgow, a UNESCO City of Music, from 18 January to 4 February 2024 at several iconic venues across the city; notes that Celtic Connections began in 1994 in one venue, featuring 66 events over its duration; understands that the event in 2024 will host around 1,200 musicians over 300 events for the duration of its 31st festival celebrating Scotland’s global cultural connections; notes that the huge variety of events taking place includes workshops, screenings, recitals and both large and small musical performances; further notes that the range of musical genres and cultures incorporated into the festival includes folk, jazz, Americana, Breton, rock and orchestral performances; celebrates what it sees as the cultural diversity shown by Celtic Connections both through examples of the arts from across the world, but also involvement in curating the cultural programme for major international sporting events such as the Ryder Cup, Olympics, Commonwealth Games, multi-sport European Championships, UCI World Cycling Championships and UEFA European Championships; notes what it considers to be the importance of the annual Celtic Connections festival in showcasing what it sees as Scotland’s important cultural links with other countries across the globe; congratulates once again those involved in Celtic Connections 2024, and looks forward to its future events.
