Council on Disability, 32 Years of Support
The motion
That the Parliament praises the Council on Disability for 32 years of supporting and assisting disabled people and their carers in Stirling and the surrounding areas; understands that the Council on Disability is a totally volunteer-led organisation that supports around 500 people each year with a variety of issues, including access to benefits, tribunals, housing issues, grants, bus passes, blue badges, access to aids and information, home adaptations, and looking after the emotional wellbeing of its clients; congratulates the Council on Disability on, it understands, raising over £2.2 million of benefits for its clients in the year to 31 March 2023; acknowledges what it sees as the significant contribution made by the nine volunteers of the Council on Disability, who gave a total of 2,039 hours to volunteering for the charity in 2023-24; notes that the Council on Disability has been supported financially by Stirling Council since its inception, and has received funding from the Scottish Government's Investing in Communities Fund for the last seven years, alongside support from a number of other funding bodies, and wishes the Council on Disability continued success in its work.
