Anniversary of United Nations General Assembly Resolution

The motion

That the Parliament is aware that on 24 January 1946 the United Nations General Assembly adopted by consensus its very first resolution, Resolution 1 (I), which established a commission of the UN Security Council to ensure the elimination from national armaments of atomic weapons and all other major weapons adaptable to mass destruction; believes that this resolution remains valid today, affirming what it considers to be a core objective of the United Nations in contributing to the global abolition of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction, and notes the concerns of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, as stated in its announcement on 23 January 2024, and that its Doomsday Clock remains at a moment of historic danger at 90 seconds to midnight.
