Congratulating Start Up Stirling on its 30th Anniversary
The motion
That the Parliament praises Start Up Stirling on its 30th anniversary, and acknowledges what it sees as the incredible work that the charity does in supporting individuals and families all across the Stirling Council area who find themselves in financial difficulty, poverty or crisis; understands that Start Up Stirling was formed in 1994 to provide support for those moving into new tenancies with household essentials such as pots, crockery, kitchen utensils and mugs, and that, 30 years later, its operation has expanded to providing crisis food and community hubs across the Stirling Council area; notes that Start Up Stirling's expanded services include running eight foodbanks in Raploch, St Ninians, Plean, Bannockburn, Fallin, Cowie, Callander and Killin, alongside a mobile foodbank for those who cannot travel, and providing tailored support to people through access to a range of services, including money advice, fuel poverty advice, and support for addiction issues and social isolation; further notes that Start Up Stirling is funded through donations and fundraising by local people, alongside receiving funding from a number of trusts and funders, including Stirling Council, ForthGiving, Bank of Scotland Foundation, Nationwide, Impact Funding Partners and the Scottish Government, and encourages the public to join Start Up Stirling for an evening of good music and good company on 12 September 2024 at the Victoria Halls in Dunblane for a fundraising concert with music from The Jacobites.
