Recognising Eddie Watt, Loganair’s Longest-serving Pilot, on his Retirement

The motion

That the Parliament recognises the achievements of Eddie Watt, Loganair’s longest-serving pilot, on his retirement; understands that prior to his work with the company, Eddie was a pilot with the Mission Aviation Fellowship UK, working in Kenya to transport missionaries, relief and development aid workers and doctors; further understands that Eddie joined Loganair in 1996 and initially flew the Islander aircraft around Shetland, providing a vital service including air ambulance provision in often challenging conditions, before moving on to flying the Saab 340s for the airline; notes that Loganair has retired its fleet of 18 Saab 340s, which completed more than 430,000 flights, with both passengers and cargo, and carried in excess of eight million customers over their lifetime; further notes that Eddie piloted the final Loganair Saab 340 flight from Kirkwall to Glasgow via Inverness, on 25 January 2024; believes that this final Saab 340 flight makes for a fitting retirement for Eddie, who has worked with the aircraft for 34 years; understands that Eddie is renowned for his commentaries from the cockpit and many Shetlanders have enjoyed hearing his local voice on flights to and from Sumburgh; recognises the vital contribution that Eddie Watt has made over the years to transport and aviation in Scotland’s Highlands and Islands through his pilot career, and wishes him well in his retirement.
