Scotland's Lascar Heritage: Investigating the Lives of South Asian Mariners

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the Bangladesh Association Glasgow on the publication of its book, Scotland's Lascar Heritage: Investigating the Lives of South Asian Mariners; understands that the book brings together research and creative outputs of a community-led collections research project exploring the history of South Asian sailors, known as lascars, in Glasgow; recognises that the project was undertaken in partnership between the Bangladesh Association Glasgow, Our Shared Cultural Heritage (OSCH) and Glasgow Life Museums; understands that this collaboration is part of the Exchange: Community-Led Collections Research project; commends the project for its aim to enable organisations around the UK to work with community groups to explore experiences of empire, migration and life in Britain; believes that the project has generated new research and uncovered many people’s experiences that had not previously been shared, and looks forward to further collaboration efforts to explore communities' shared experiences of empire and migration across Britain.
