City of Brechin Pipe Band, Scotland’s Oldest Civilian Pipe Band

The motion

That the Parliament recognises the City of Brechin Pipe Band as Scotland’s oldest civilian pipe band, which dates back to 1878; notes the recent recovery from damage to its hall, as a result of Storm Babet; understands that the storm caused significant damage to the building, instruments and band kit; appreciates the effort of the band to set up a Crowdfunder page to raise vital funds to help the band recover; understands the 20 playing members are hoping to return to the competitive circuit for the first time in nearly a decade; recognises the strong local connections that the band has from playing at annual events across Brechin and Angus, such as Glamis Extravaganza, and wishes it well for the busy summer calendar ahead.
