Spectra, Scotland’s Festival of Light
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Spectra, Scotland's Festival of Light, on the success of its 2024 festival, which ran between 8 and 11 February 2024 at various sites across Aberdeen city centre; understands that this was the 10th anniversary of the Spectra festival, and was marked by over 100,000 visits to festival sites, bringing artists from across the globe to the Granite City; recognises that the festival showcased a variety of light installations and projections, which were enjoyed for free by all, including Winds of Change by Heinrich and Palmer, Submergence by Squidsoup, Butterfly Dream by Anne Bennett, and Lightstream by Flora Litchfield; notes that local schools and communities were encouraged to contribute their own light-inspired creations to the festival; praises Spectra for teaming up with WeToo and Abledeen to make the festival as accessible as possible for all, with special welcome desks and extra accessible maps, and for providing AN-D's Binky sensory bus for anyone requiring a break from the crowds, and looks forward to many exciting Spectra festivals for years to come.
