Torrance Primary School Triumphs in National Environmental Contest
The motion
That Parliament congratulates pupils at Torrance Primary School, in the Strathkelvin and Bearsden constituency, on triumphing in a national competition aimed at tackling marine litter across Scotland; commends the pupils for winning the award for Most Innovative Solution in environmental charity Keep Scotland Beautiful’s STEM the Flow contest; notes that the competition was aimed at encouraging school pupils to investigate and design solutions to stop marine litter at the source, as part of the national Upstream Battle campaign; understands that Torrance Primary School came up with the innovative idea of making a unique aquatic drone created from bioplastic, in the form of an octopus, powered by jets of water and using a combination of scanner, vacuum and magnets to attract and remove litter; praises all of the participants for what the judges described as excellent, inspiring and thought-provoking projects, and is delighted that the STEM the Flow project is, it believes, inspiring younger generations to be creative and passionate about protecting the environment.
