The motion

That the Parliament pays tribute to Orkney broadcaster, Dave Gray, who died on 21 February 2024 following a short illness; understands that Dave worked at BBC Radio Orkney for over 30 years until his retirement in 2021, having run the station since 2008; further understands that Dave’s introduction to broadcasting came after he asked the station to play more heavy metal, and was given his own slot, "Metallic Gray"; understands that Dave quickly took to all aspects of broadcasting and became a full-time journalist and producer; considers that Dave was a warm, witty and irreverent broadcaster whose talents made him the voice of Radio Orkney for many years; recognises that his former colleagues have referred to his "legendary" interview technique, his humour and his great love of his native islands; notes the tributes that have been paid to Dave from across Orkney and well beyond; sends its condolences to his family, notably his four children, and salutes the contribution made by a man who has been described as "uncompromisingly Orcadian".
