Protecting Mothers in Palestine on International Women's Day

The motion

That the Parliament notes that International Women’s Day will be marked this year on 8 March 2024, at a time when women and children across the globe are being impacted by conflict; recognises reports that of around 50,000 pregnant women in Gaza, 40% of those pregnancies have been classed as high risk; acknowledges what it sees as the significant toll that the conflict has taken on expectant and new mothers in Palestine; understands that, according to UN Women, two mothers are killed every hour in Gaza, and that as many as one in six children are acutely malnourished, according to the World Food Programme; further understands that the reported serious malnutrition and limited access to water for all people in the Gaza Strip makes it almost impossible to feed and care for a baby properly, and calls, therefore, on humanitarian aid channels to be opened to ensure that food, water and medical aid can reach expectant and new mothers, babies and children, who, it considers, are all in urgent and desperate need of aid.
