NHS Borders Celebrates UNICEF Accreditation for Neonatal Unit
The motion
That the Parliament recognises that, following an assessment in November 2023, the Neonatal Unit at Borders General Hospital has been awarded Stage 2 UNICEF Baby Friendly accreditation; notes that the accreditation relates to the education of the workforce to ensure that UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative standards are being met and implemented by all members of staff within the unit to promote close and loving relationships, the importance of breastfeeding and supporting parents to be partners in care; understands that this unit is the first in Scotland to meet 100% of the criteria within the neonatal Baby Friendly standards, with the UNICEF assessors reporting that staff consistently displayed enthusiasm and commitment to providing an effective training programme and are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to implement the Baby Friendly standards; congratulates all involved on their work in securing this accreditation through their support of families, and wishes them the best in progressing to Stage 3 assessment.
