The motion

That the Parliament commends Lenzie Academy Community Engagement (LACE) for its inspirational work in connection with the Youth Philanthropy Initiative, highlighting the impact of Families Outside, a charity that intensively supports families affected by imprisonment; applauds the planning, detailed research and stakeholder interaction carried out by the Lenzie Academy pupils involved in producing a video that was launched at a dedicated event hosted by Bishopbriggs Library on 28 February 2024 and attended by Provost Gillian Renwick; recognises the tenacity of the core team of young people, who were Anneliese, Holly, Gabriella and the principal teacher of wider achievement, Mrs Mandy Davidson, in remaining committed to the Youth Philanthropy Initiative project until its completion; celebrates that the team chose to partner with the Scottish charity, Families Outside, which was established in 1991 and is dedicated to offering emotional support, information about the justice system, prison and visiting procedures, and advice on housing, finance, benefits and healthcare; understands that intervention by Families Outside helps to improve outcomes for children and others, who often become stigmatised and have fewer life chances than their peers due to a relative serving a prison sentence; offers heartfelt gratitude for the opportunities that Families Outside provides to work with affected families facing these challenging periods through non-judgemental care and support; extends its thanks to Jazmine Bennett, Lucy Roy Scott and Karen McKay at Families Outside for this highly informative event, and sends every best wish to the project team at Lenzie Academy Community Engagement, to the staff and volunteers of Families Outside and to all those whose lives have been touched by these impactful services.
