Livingston Skatepark Granted Category B Listed Status by Historic Environment Scotland

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Livingston Skatepark on being listed by Historic Environment Scotland at category B; understands that it was the local skateboarder, Kenny Omond, who first approached Livingston Development Corporation with the idea for a skatepark, which was opened in 1981; further understands that the park was later extended, achieving international renown within the skate scene from its earliest days due to its scale, ambition and quality, being known for its very deep double bowl and finely-tuned transitions; appreciates that, due to its legendary status, it attracted the world legend skateboarder, Tony Hawk, to skate there in 1991; considers that the skatepark is an enduring icon of the Scottish skate and bike scene, being the earliest surviving purpose-built skatepark in Scotland, which remains a highly valued creative and important social space for the community of Livingston and the skating and biking community, and hopes that this designation will help ensure that it is protected for future generations.
