Wildfire 2024
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes Wildfire 2024, the UK Wildfire Conference’s bi-annual flagship event, which will be held in Aberdeen in November 2024 and will host international delegates to explore "Resilience in a Changing World" and the challenges and opportunities that countries face in light of the climate emergency, changing landscapes and emerging science; understands that attendees can expect to hear from a variety of experts in wildfire and land management, from Portugal, South Africa and Catalonia; believes that the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) has significant experience to share with the international community, having reportedly fought against a wildfire every single day on average throughout the spring and summer months of 2023; welcomes the SFRS campaign to prevent wildfires in Scotland; acknowledges the role that firefighters have in protecting the environment and saving human lives, as well as that of forestry professionals, gamekeepers and local volunteers in preventing and managing wildfire risks, and wishes the event organisers and attendees of Wildfire 2024 a successful event.
