The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the United Nations International Day to Combat Islamophobia on 15 March 2024; understands that there has been a recent significant rise in reported Islamophobic attacks across the country, and appreciates the hard work that Police Scotland, local authorities and community organisations are undertaking to tackle this form of hate in society; recognises what it considers to be the immensely challenging circumstances facing Scotland’s Muslim community, as, it believes, men and women come under attack from extremist ideologies and experience frequent abuse, as well as discrimination and marginalisation in the media, at school, at work and online; acknowledges all of those who have supported Islamophobia awareness and continue to stand with those affected by any form of hate, and hopes for Scotland to continue to be a place where people are free to practice their faith without fear.
