Celebrating 625 Years of Worship at Bothwell Parish Church

That the Parliament celebrates 625 years of worship at Bothwell Parish Church, Scotland’s oldest collegiate church, which occupies the site of a former 6th century church; understands that Bothwell Parish Church marked this fantastic milestone during a Sunday service on 3 March 2024, where it welcomed the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland and Lord Lieutenant of Lanarkshire; recognises the wealth of history that the church holds, including a royal wedding, in 1400, between Mary Douglas, the only daughter of Archibald Douglas "The Grim" Lord of Bothwell and Galloway, and David Stewart, the First Duke of Rothesay, who was the eldest son of King Robert III and heir to the Throne of Scotland; further recognises what it sees as the ongoing invaluable contributions made by the church to serve and support the community; understands that this support encompasses the operation of the Food Larder in collaboration with Bothwell Futures, which it understands has been indispensable for community members facing the challenges of the cost of living crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic, where households benefited from the delivery of food parcels directly to their door; commends the church for its comfort and service that it continues to provide to the Bothwell community, and wishes it all the best for future service and endeavours.
