Sir Geoff Palmer Appointed to Scotland's Order of the Thistle

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Professor Sir Geoff Palmer on being made a Knight of the Order of the Thistle; believes that the Order of the Thistle is the greatest order of chivalry in Scotland, and that it symbolises a profound commitment to Scotland’s welfare and cultural legacy; understands that this was awarded in recognition of Sir Geoff’s significant contributions to national life and public service; further understands that Sir Geoff was Scotland’s first Black professor, and that he has dedicated his life to pioneering scientific research, education and community activism; acknowledges what it sees as Sir Geoff’s distinct work on race relations and addressing Scotland’s colonial past; thanks Sir Geoff for his lifetime’s work in science, academia and community activism in Scotland, and wishes him all the best for the future.
