Recognising Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland’s "No Life Half Lived 1 in 5 Long Covid Report"

The motion

That the Parliament recognises International Long Covid Awareness Day 2024, which takes place on 15 March; understands that, since 2020, over 180,000 people in Scotland have developed long COVID; acknowledges that long COVID has a range of symptoms, which may include heart palpitations, fatigue and postural tachycardia syndrome (PoTS); understands that people with long COVID face significant barriers to accessing care, rehab support, and social security; commends the work undertaken by Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland (CHSS) to provide community healthcare support services that enable people living with long COVID to build confidence and manage their condition through supported self-management; is concerned by findings from the CHSS No Life Half Lived 1 in 5 Long Covid Report, which found that 82% of those surveyed with long COVID encountered some kind of difficulty in accessing services, with many struggling to access any medical support at all, and urges the Scottish Government to implement its long COVID service plans in full, ensuring access to rehab services and self-management support.
