New Indoor Tennis Centre Opens at Heriot-Watt University
The motion
That the Parliament celebrates the official opening of the Indoor Tennis Centre at Oriam, Scotland’s Sports Performance Centre, situated on the grounds of Heriot-Watt University’s Edinburgh campus; highlights that what it considers to be the world-class facility offers six brand new indoor tennis courts, which provide more and better opportunities to access the sport all year round; understands that the facility will meet what it sees as the growing demand for state-of-the-art tennis facilities in Scotland, serving Heriot-Watt University students and the local and national communities; believes that the centre represents a significant step forward in raising the profile of tennis in Scotland and in encouraging more aspiring athletes, coaches and players of all abilities to get involved; acknowledges that the £4.5 million centre has been funded in partnership between Oriam, Heriot-Watt University, the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), the LTA Tennis Foundation, sportscotland and Tennis Scotland through the Transforming Scottish Indoor Tennis (TSIT) Fund; considers that Heriot-Watt University already offers some of the best sporting facilities found in Scotland, including for football, rugby and netball, and hopes that the new tennis facility will flourish as a hub for students, a successful sports venue, and a training ground for athletes across Scotland.
