The motion

That the Parliament recognises that March 2024 is Endometriosis Action Month; understands that this month is an opportunity to raise awareness, demand change and show support for the estimated one in 10 women with endometriosis; further understands that endometriosis is the name given to the condition where cells that are similar to the ones in the lining of the womb, or uterus, are found elsewhere in the body; notes that, currently, there is no cure for endometriosis and that it can affect females from puberty through to menopause, although the impact may be felt for life; recognises that endometriosis can have a significant impact on a woman’s life in a number of ways, including resulting in chronic pain, fatigue, depression, relationship problems or inability to conceive; further recognises that different treatments are available for endometriosis that aim to reduce the severity of symptoms and improve the quality of life for women living with the condition, and notes that the Scottish Government’s Women’s Health Plan will come to an end in 2024, and considers that every effort must be made now, and in the future, to raise awareness of endometriosis among the public and healthcare practitioners.
