Brimmond School Awarded Top UNICEF Accolade

That the Parliament congratulates all pupils and staff at Brimmond School, in the Aberdeen Donside constituency, on their school receiving a UNICEF UK Gold Award in recognition of their commitment to children's rights; understands that the Gold Award is considered to be the ultimate stage of the Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA), which is granted to schools that have fully embedded children's rights throughout the school in its policies, practice and ethos; notes that, in order to achieve the Gold Award, Brimmond School had to show that it had "explicitly adopted a child rights approach based on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and has embedded it in school policy, practice and culture", that "children, young people and adults in [its] school have a thorough understanding of child rights, and rights respecting attitudes and language are embedded across the school", that the "RRSA has had a positive impact on children and young people’s learning and wellbeing", and that "students see themselves as rights respecting global citizens and are advocates for social justice, fairness and children’s rights at home and abroad"; understands that over 1.5 million children across the UK attend a Rights Respecting School, with more than 5,000 schools across the UK currently working through their RRSA, and commends the efforts of all pupils and staff at Brimmond School in achieving this award.
