Police Scotland Trial Tagging Spray in Aberdeen

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes what it sees as the innovative trialling of a synthetic DNA tagging spray by Police Scotland to tackle crime and antisocial behaviour in Aberdeen; understands that officers across Seaton, Tillydrone, Northfield, Mastrick and Torry will be equipped with a single-use, hand-held, and near-invisible spray, which leaves a unique, long-lasting stain that officers can detect with the use of ultraviolet lights; understands that the SelectaDNA tagging spray will be used against antisocial users of bicycles, scooters, e-bikes and motor bikes, in order to provide an irrefutable forensic link to a specific crime; acknowledges that the spray has already been tested by Police Scotland in Edinburgh, which resulted in antisocial motorcycle calls falling by 60%, and wishes Police Scotland all the best in its efforts to reduce crime and antisocial behaviour.
