University of Aberdeen Rowett Institute Leads the Way in Brain Cell Research to Help in the Fight Against Obesity
The motion
That the Parliament recognises the University of Aberdeen Rowett Institute and its researchers who have made an important discovery in brain cell research that could help in the fight against obesity; understands that the team of researchers have identified a cluster of cells that control food intake and body weight, these cells make a chemical called GABA, whose primary job is to block signals to the brain; considers that obesity and being overweight is primarily caused by eating more calories than the body needs and can lead to a multitude of health problems; believes that this new research, published in Current Biology and conducted by researchers from the University of Aberdeen Rowett Institute, could help pave the way to develop more targeted medications reducing food intake and body weight by tackling hunger, without causing nausea, and wishes the team well with their studies in helping to tackle obesity.
