Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health Scotland Report, Worried and Waiting: A Review of Paediatric Waiting Times in Scotland
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the publication of a new report by the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health Scotland (RCPCH), Worried and Waiting: A Review of Paediatric Waiting Times in Scotland; notes reports that the total number of paediatric waits have more than doubled between 2012 and 2023; further notes that, according to the report, waiting times reached their peak in July 2022 when the total number of waits stood at 13,138; believes there is a need to reduce waiting times and NHS backlogs across Scotland and considers that long waiting times have a significant impact, particularly on children; values RCPCH Scotland’s three recommendations of a full review of the child health workforce, improvement in the collection and utilisation of child health data, and improved access to, and funding of, primary care and cross-sector community-based services, resources and advice for children, young people and families; calls on the Scottish Government to engage with RCPCH to further understand the issues facing paediatric and child health services, and commends RCPCH, Dr Mairi Stark and the children and young people for their calls to improve paediatric and child health wait times in Scotland.
