Scotland to Host Bio-Hermes Biomarker Data Challenge 2024
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the decision of the Global Alzheimer's Platform Foundation (GAP), an organisation focused on global game-changing dementia research, to choose Scotland to host the Bio-Hermes Biomarker Data Challenge 2024; understands that this research competition will use the most comprehensive set of dementia biomarker data from what it sees as ground-breaking early blood testing studies for Alzheimer’s disease; notes that researchers from the universities of Glasgow and St Andrews, supported by the Scottish Funding Council’s Brain Health Alliance for Research Challenges, have initiated an open access competition encouraging researchers from various disciplines to utilise this data to generate breakthroughs in dementia research; recognises that Scotland was chosen for its "unprecedented commitment to a broad and accelerated process"; considers that the Bio-Hermes Biomarker Data Challenge represents a collaborative effort to leverage extensive datasets and interdisciplinary expertise in pursuit of innovative solutions for Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, and believes that this is a strong endorsement of what it considers to be Scotland’s flourishing life sciences sector.
