Eid Mubarak

The motion

That the Parliament notes the celebration of Eid al-Fitr, beginning on the evening of 9 April 2024 depending on the sighting of the moon; understands that Eid al-Fitr comes at the end of the Muslim month of Ramadan, a month of prayer and reflection throughout which Muslims worldwide engage in fasting during the hours of daylight; recognises the Muslim focus on charity and giving throughout Ramadan, with acts of charity, known as Zakat, performed before prayer on Eid al-Fitr; understands that the holiday is celebrated with friends and family, involving the preparation of special food and the giving of gifts; expresses its hope that Muslims worldwide are able to celebrate Eid al-Fitr in peace and security, and wishes the Muslim community in Scotland, and around the world, Eid Mubarak.
