BP Student Tutoring Scheme Celebrates 30 Years of Inspiring Pupils
The motion
That the Parliament recognises that BP’s student tutoring scheme marks 30 years of inspiring pupils across the north east of Scotland; understands that the scheme has provided around 3,000 students with the opportunity to inspire school pupils across the north east; notes that, each year, the scheme places students from Robert Gordon University, the University of Aberdeen and North East Scotland College into classrooms across Aberdeen city and Aberdeenshire, to act as role models to pupils, help raise aspirations and motivate them to continue in education after school; acknowledges that the scheme also helps students to develop problem-solving and communication skills while also encouraging them to consider a potential career in teaching; understands that the current scheme evolved from an earlier programme run by BP, which focused on encouraging school pupils to stay on after compulsory schooling and aspire to further and higher education; notes that this year sees 70 student tutors placed in almost 30 schools across the region, including schools in the Aberdeen Donside constituency; commends the efforts of all those involved in the scheme, and wishes them all the best for the future.
