UK Government Funding Award for Crookfur House in Newton Mearns
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the recent award of finance for six community assets in Scotland, including Crookfur House in Newton Mearns, through round 3 of the UK Government's Community Ownership Fund; recognises that the Community Ownership Fund is part of the UK Government's Levelling Up initiative and that funding of £200,000 has been made available for Crookfur House; acknowledges that the funding award will be used to rejuvenate Crookfur House in order to establish a fit-for-purpose and needs-led community hub and finance improvements at the supported living estate, including a new cafe, community spaces and staff offices; understands that the latest round of Community Ownership Fund awards means that 47 community assets across Scotland have now received financial support through this project, with a total funding package of nearly £17 million; notes that the Community Ownership Fund supports projects that meet one or a number of set objectives, including, but not limited to, the remediation and refurbishment of an asset to ensure that it can have a sustainable long-term future, the relocation of a community asset to a different setting within the same locality, and allowing community groups to take ownership of an asset at risk to the benefit of local people; further notes that the Levelling Up initiative aims to create opportunities across the UK and empower communities to enhance their local areas; understands that the UK Government is now providing over £3 billion of Levelling Up finance throughout Scotland, and welcomes what it sees as this significant investment across the nation.
