The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the charity, Doctors in Distress, for planting arowan tree, which, it understands, is native to Scotland and represents lifeand protection, in Gartnavel General Hospital in the city's West End tocommemorate NHS medics who have taken their own lives; understands that it willbe the first memorial tree dedicated to health workers in Scotland; furtherunderstands that it comes after recent statistics have reportedly shown that inthe UK, one doctor takes their own life every three weeks and one nurse takestheir own life every week; believes that having the tree right outside the mainhospital on Gartnavel campus will hopefully give staff a place where, even fora short time, they can pause for reflection; understands that Doctors inDistress was founded specifically to eliminate what it sees as stigmasurrounding suicide and to provide support to NHS workers in order for them tocontinue the amazing work that they do; further understands that the charitywould like every hospital in the country to support its National Memorial TreeCampaign and plant a memorial tree, which will highlight its commitment toprotecting the mental health and wellbeing of its staff.
