The Great British Curry Festival

That the Parliament notes that the inaugural Great British Curry Festival will be held in Bangladesh on 23 May 2024; understands that adjacent Curry Festivals will be held in London on 23 April, Lisbon on 7 May and Azerbaijan on 12 June; commends the founder, Tommy Miah MBE, for his work in setting up the Great British Curry Festival and promoting the curry industry in Scotland since the 1980s, including through the International Indian Chef of the Year Competition and Hospitality Awards, since its launch in 1991; understands that Tommy Miah has been promoting British curries around the world, and has chosen to launch the Great British Curry Festival in Scotland in recognition of Scotland's proud curry heritage; acknowledges what it sees as the positive impact of the curry industry in Scotland, in supporting cultural diversity, culinary excellence, tourism, local businesses and the economy; believes that, for many, the curry industry is now a vital part of Scottish and British identity; congratulates British South Asian chefs for what it deems to be their vital contribution to cultural and culinary diversity; notes the belief that more support must be given to the curry industry to help it tackle the numerous challenges that it has faced in recent years, due to COVID-19 and staff shortages; welcomes what it sees as the positive impact of the Great British Curry Festival, and wishes all participants the best for the future.
