The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the beginning of the 2024 cruise season at Port of Aberdeen, with the AIDAsol German-flagged liner arriving from Hamburg for a day-long stopover on its way to Kirkwall in Orkney; notes that the vessel, which carried 1,998 guests and 629 crew, anchored in the bay and tendered guests into Duthies Quay, North Harbour, where they enjoyed an authentic Scottish welcome by Alba Bagpipes and were greeted by the Welcome to Aberdeenshire volunteers; understands that the port currently has 58 cruise calls scheduled for 2024, including 22 maiden calls, with further bookings extending as far as 2027, and featuring industry giants such as Fred Olsen Cruises and Holland America; believes that this level of interest, which is anticipated to reach over 100 cruise calls across the next three years, highlights what it sees as the north east's growing appeal as an international cruise destination, and hopes that all those visiting return home with many happy memories of Aberdeen.
